There is a beautiful new book in the library called Tar Beach by Faith Ringgold. It's about eight-year-old Cassie Louise Lightfoot's wonderful dream adventure in NYC. Here's a book trailer - check out this book!
Here's a video where the artist Faith Ringgold talks about her writing process and Tar Beach:
I loved this book so much that I emailed Faith Ringgold:

We purchased a copy of your beautiful book, Tar Beach, for my Elementary School Library. I just had to tell you I LOVED this book. It's so beautiful - I could get lost in each picture. It's fascinating, from cover to cover. I can't wait to read it to my students.
She sent me back a response the next day!!
Thank you so much. I remember listening to the school librarian reading stories when I was in elementary school. I went to PS186 in NYC in the 1930s. That was the best part of my day. How did she always know just what story to read? We had a library in the school and the neighborhood library was just up the street. I loved going there. Faith Ringgold
